Outbreak Missions at Filinvest, Alabang

October 05, 2014

This wasn't really a makeup gig that I'd go braggin' about, but what the heck! I honestly had fun, and I was happy to see and learn a bit on how prosthetics are done. The awesome part for me was the adventure with my fellow MUAs from Makeup Design Academy, Krisha Payong and Mily Razos.

'Twas my first time to commute beyond Makati and with two persons I barely knew. Funny that we took the first bus to Alabang that we saw, and it was a non-air-conditioned one. As we were along EDSA-Ayala, it started to rain, and passengers started to shut all the windows to avoid getting wet. There was literally no air inside the bus and the weather made it all the more stuffy and sticky. Luckily, my MUA friends and I amused ourselves with chit chats amidst traffic and discomfort. We alighted at Star Mall to ride a jeepney to Filinvest, and the driver instructed us to ride another jeepney as they do not pass by Filinvest, Alabang. And so the three of us simply agreed to ride a cab instead. First cab driver asked us for P200 to Filinvest Tent. Mily haggled to P150 and another driver agreed to the offer. Such cunning men. We were at the venue in 10 minutes! That's like paying twice the metered amount.

Anyway, 4:00pm was the call time, and we were there at 3:30. Tent for zombies and MUAs was just being assembled, so we went to Jollibee to wait and relax before the apocalypse. 'Twas already 5pm when they called us to the tent. There were about 10+ MUAs from MDA. Some were assigned to do prosthetics or special effects for the main zombies, and the rest, including yours truly, were assigned to do 'generic' zombies. They gave us a palette with gray and brown paints, small sponges, and fake blood. At first, we were kinda wondering if we were still needed there since there were only a handful of zombies in the tent. Then, at around 6pm, a swarm of zombies almost literally appeared from nowhere. And so the action began.

As instructed, we used gray paint as a thin base for all exposed skin. The dark brown paint was for contouring and shadows. I specifically enjoyed putting fake blood and letting it trickle on strategic places on the zombies' face and arms. Each of us did ten zombies, one after the other. Yup, it was pretty tiring.

These zombies were a part of a surprise for an event in Filinvest Tent. We heard that as the people are watching a mini concert, lights would dim and a main man would signal the zombies to invade the venue. We didn't get to see that, since we wanted to eat dinner and head back home early. Too bad, Parokya ni Edgar was part of the show.

'Twas a blessing that Krisha's boyfriend, Martin, came to pick her up, so that meant a comfortable ride back to Quezon City for us.

What a silly, yet adventurous event for a newbie makeup artist like me. I'm very happy to have gained new friends. And the best part? It's coming home to a wonderful husband and sharing how it all went.
